Storage Instructions

Storing Scotch Bonnet peppers requires careful attention to maintain their freshness and potency. To maximize their shelf life, store these fiery peppers in the refrigerator, preferably in the crisper drawer. Place them in a perforated plastic bag to maintain humidity while allowing some airflow. Avoid washing them until you're ready to use them, as excess moisture can lead to mold growth. If you have a surplus of Scotch Bonnets, consider freezing them for long-term storage. Simply wash, remove seeds and stems, chop or leave them whole, and then store in a sealed plastic bag or airtight container. Keep in mind that Scotch Bonnets are known for their intense heat, so handle them with care, wear gloves if necessary, and be cautious when preparing to avoid irritation to your skin and eyes.

The only component from our packaging that can’t be recycled are the foil liners which need to be go in household waste; the poly bags meat comes in needs to go in plastic recycling.

More Details

Scotch bonnet, also known as bonnie peppers, or Caribbean red peppers, is a variety of chilli pepper named for its resemblance to a Scottish tam o'shanter hat.  It is among the hottest peppers anywhere as most Scotch bonnets have a heat rating of 100,000–350,000 Scoville units. So if you like serious heat in your dishes, this is the one for you!
The Scotch bonnet also has several health benefits. This may sound counter-intuitive, but the capsaicin in peppers actually act as an anti-irritant. Thus, this fiery pepper benefits the digestive tract such as healing an upset tummy or improving cramps. It also aids the circulatory system and thus helps prevent excessive blood clotting.
