Cut to the Chase: A Friday night treat. Like almost all Italian wines it is made for food. Simply grilled meats, duck and game birds and anything flavoured with truffle or mushrooms.

Wine Expert Speak: The king of wines and the wine of kings, they say. This Barolo is typically not very dark in colour but showing complex aromas; savoury and sweet spice, balsam and dried herbs, and some liquorice. Already showing secondary flavours, it is sweet and savoury, lean but not mean, a little stern on the tail. Quite elegant.
